Today I want to share something which I believe can make a difference in your life and in the the lives of others. The core of what I shall share, has been a constant trend amongst most of the books on self development I have read. This might not be a novelty in some of your eyes, maybe more of a reminder, but my belief is, what I am about to share could help you.
Although numbers can vary and there is no right answer, my special number here is 10. Therefore what I present to you is, the POWER OF TEN.
What is the power of Ten?
If there is an area in your life that you believe needs change, you could use the principles of the Power of Ten to make change happen, it’s that simple.
Some of us believe that some goals/targets or outcomes are hard to achieve, maybe impossible too. Things can never happen to us, they can only happen to the lucky ones (of course). Deep inside us we want to change, we know we want to change, but we also do not know were to start from.
The POWER OF TEN is simple. Find out what needs to be changed or dealt with and apply change for ten days. Let me make it easier for you to understand by giving you one example in five main areas of your life.
Health
You feel unhealthy. You know you are unhealthy, but the thought of “the sacrifice” is too hard. You would love to start going to the gym. You would love to start walking or cycling. You would love to eat better.
Using the P.O.T you give ten days to your new challenge/goal. For ten days “ONLY” I will go to the gym. I will work out. I will walk/run/cycle. For ten days I will eat wisely (no Junk Food/sodas/coffee etc).
What will happen here. If you did this for 7 days, you would have a 50/50 chance of continuing this new path, but in ten days you have already beaten the 7 day challenge and made it to ten (one and a half weeks).
WHY STOP NOW, IF YOU ARE ALREADY SEEING CHANGE
Relationships
My partner and I do not see eye to eye. We fight constantly, he/she never listens to me. Ok, so you apply the P.O.T . For then days, I will listen, I will try to understand. I will be more calm or patient. There will be change for sure. If nothing happens after ten days, then hey, maybe its time to move on.
Or at work: you have a colleague who you do not get along with. You use the P.O.T to change your approach. You work his/her way for ten days. Maybe you might learn something new, maybe this person is not as bad as they seem, maybe it was you.
Finance
Your spending habits are out of control. You decide enough is enough. You decide to use the P.O.T wisely. For ten days I will not spend any money on silly things, actually I will only buy what is needed.
Ten days after you have already saved something, and although the amount is small, you know deep inside that if you do this for a longer period, maybe the car/house or boat will not be such a hard target.
Career
You have been working the same job for ten years. You are bored. You are restless. Nothing ever changes. You decide to use the P.O.T at work. You decided to surprise your boss with something new/creative and innovative. For ten days you think of ideas that will inject some new dynamics in your company. When you present it to your boss, he is amazed. He offers you a promotion and suddenly life at work becomes challenging and fun.
Personal Growth
You have not learned anything new since your school days (and that might have been years ago). You pick up a subject, anything, it could be on gardening, graphic design, pottery and you practice this new subject/area for ten days. Chances are, when the P.O.T is up, you might realize that what you are trying is not for you, or suddenly you have discovered a new passion, awesome, Great.
Find out what needs to be done and apply the P.O.T. .It has worked for me and it could work for you. Heck worse case scenario, you would have sacrificed ten days of your life (However there is a good chance that your small “sacrifice” could actually have been a redemption).
