Grandmothers Wisdom

Peter always seemed to be so preoccupied. He played with his toys from morning till night. The only time he put his toys down was when it was time to eat.

During his meal he would go on and on about his toys and how he wished he had more. HIs grandmother who brought him up, used to always listen to him and she cared for him very much.

She was waiting for that special morning. SHe was waiting to share some of her wisdom with him.

One fine day Peter got up in the morning and for some odd reason did not feel like playing with his toys. He did not even mention all the toys he did not have.

Grandmother knew today was the day she would share some of her wisdom.

She called Peter to the Garden. Peter went running as Grandmother never really called him. When he arrived she told him "Come along Peter, hold my hand, I want to take you somewhere, today is a special day"

Peter grabbed hold of his Grandmothers hand and they walked passed the gardens on to the hills. Peter was quiet at first, but as they walked he started talking again. Grandmother listened and smiled.

When they reached the top of the hill they could see a spectacular 360 view of the village, their house and the blue lake. Peter never really noticed this spectacle. Then Grandmother put her finger in front of her lips and told Peter to remain silent. Peter kept on talking and Grandmother insisted he remained silent. Then she told him "Peter Listen".....Listen Carefully"

Suddenly Peter stopped talking and Listened. His head was tilted slightly forward as if he was trying to get more attention from the sounds that came before him. Something magical was happening and he seemed to be really absorbing it all.

He heard the birds sing to each other as they passed over their heads. He heard the bees buzzing on the beautiful flowers that lay before them. He heard the sound of the wind, brushing along his ears and neck. He could see everything that lay before him and around him. These sensations were all happening at once.

He whispered "Wow" to his grandmother. Grandmother never heard him say "Wow" to any of his toys. She knew he got it. She knew he was finally ready.

Peter realized that he had the whole world to live for. He realized that there was beauty all around him. He realized that life was beautiful and he had everything he wanted. It was always in front of him.

Peter turned towards his grandmother and told her "Thank you" and hugged her.
